Middle Avenue Caltrain Crossing Project City Council study session on January 27

by Contributed Content on January 26, 2026

The Menlo Park City Council will discuss the next steps for the Middle Avenue Caltrain Crossing Project at a study session during its January 27 meeting that begins at 6:00 pm.

This project will construct a pedestrian and bicycle undercrossing of the Caltrain railroad near Middle Avenue, connecting Alma Street near Burgess Park to El Camino Real at the open space plaza that is part of Stanford’s Middle Plaza at 500 El Camino Real project.

The crossing will improve connectivity for neighborhoods on both sides of the Caltrain tracks to city amenities, schools, public transit and downtown Menlo Park. Staff will provide an update on the design and construction costs.

Great idea! would be massively more safe than the Ravenswood crossing. (Even better would be a full-blown underpass including cars (but this is a good start); why not get help from FB/Meta and include naming rights.) … from citizen of MP who’s biked for 50 years here.

Agreed with Bob! And would be great to add a path paralleling Caltrain’s tracks for the length of Menlo Park, connecting with Palo Alto’s path on the west/south side of the tracks.
