Over the past 24 summers, their visionary leadership has transformed Music@Menlo into one of the world’s most distinguished chamber music festivals, renowned for artistic rigor, imaginative programming, and a rare synthesis of performance, mentorship, and artistic legacy. Redux reflects on the festival’s defining moments while opening the way to what comes next.
The 2026 festival features seven main-stage concert programs, each drawing inspiration from a past Music@Menlo season and revisiting seminal repertoire and ideas that have shaped the festival over its history.
At the same time, the summer serves as a bridge to Music@Menlo’s 25th anniversary in 2027, launching Gilles Vonsattel’s monumental, multi-season presentation of Beethoven’s complete cycle of 32 piano sonatas.
Running from July 17 through August 8, the 2026 festival presents more than 50 events across Music@Menlo’s three stages in Atherton, California, showcasing many of the world’s most celebrated artists and ensembles.
Regarding this turning point for Music@Menlo, David Finckel and Wu Han commented:
“The theme of Redux was conceived long before we made the decision to step aside. It was one of many ideas that had been taking shape over time, yet it suddenly felt especially fitting for this summer. At its heart, Redux celebrates the inexhaustible richness of classical chamber music and the capacity of the Music@Menlo model to continually renew itself well into the future. Of that enduring vitality, we are tremendously proud.”
