MP Police introduce new public-facing law enforcement platform, Citizen Rim
The Menlo Park Police Department has introduced a new public facing law enforcement platform, Citizen RIMS. This portal replaces the police department’s previous open data portal.
Citizen RIMS provides continuously updated information, not only about officer-initiated activity but also incidents that affect public safety. This new platform reflects the department’s commitment to keeping residents, businesses and visitors informed about crime trends and law enforcement activities within the community.
The Citizen RIMS portal is managed by the police department and includes a mapping feature allowing the public to search and view incidents throughout the City. Information about recent arrests, stop data statistics, calls for service and crime statistics are also available.
As the system continues to develop, additional features will be added, which include security camera registration and property checks. Some information is limited to protect victim privacy. This site does not provide information regarding juvenile offenders, or specific information regarding crimes that are sensitive in nature.
The Citizen RIMS features are as follows:
- Crime and Activity: The crime and activity page displays calls for service and case reports completed by the Menlo Park Police Department. This includes emergency and non-emergency incidents and cases that may or may not be criminal in nature. Data on this map is compiled from calls for service and officer-initiated activity.
- Arrests: The arrests page displays adults that have been arrested by the Menlo Park Police Department within the past 30 days.
- Stop Data Statistics: The stop data statistics page displays Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA) data. This information includes the officers’ perceptions of people stopped, the reason for stops, and actions taken during stops as required by the California RIPA Regulations.
- Crime Statistics: The crime statistics page displays National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) data. This information includes the types of crime reported in a specific jurisdiction as defined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

This new Citizen RIMS platform seems like a positive step towards greater transparency and community engagement from the Menlo Park Police Department. Having accessible data on crime trends, arrests, and calls for service will be very informative for residents. I look forward to seeing how the platform develops with the additional features mentioned.
