Juneteenth is celebrated in Menlo Park

Over 300 members of the Menlo Park community came to the Belle Haven Community Campus on June 19 to celebrate Juneteenth.
Attendees enjoyed performances from Menlo Park Soul Line Dancers, Chillin Da Conscious Poet & Queen Gabby, Asheba, Myke The Kidd, and Step It Up Dance.

They also had the opportunity to visit vendors, make a pickled souvenir jar, and learn historical facts about Juneteenth, which is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19 as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States.
