At its June 23rd meeting, the Menlo Park City Council approved a number of zoning changes that will open up Santa Cruz Avenue (SCA) to more types of businesses.

These include spas, salons and other personal service businesses which will now be allowed to operate on ground floor without a conditional use permit. Massage parlors will remain outside the downtown core.

Previously prohibited businesses such as small-scale recreation (gyms and arcades) can now apply for use permits, with the Planning Commission retaining the authority to approve or deny projects.

Financial institutions like banks, which already account for about 28,000 square feet, will be limited to a total of 30,000 square feet on SCA.
