St. Patrick’s Seminary starts Menlo’s Christmas festivities

by Linda Hubbard Gulker on November 29, 2010

Most of the people gathered for the St. Patrick’s Seminary tree lighting ceremony this evening appeared to be in the “family and friends” category. Those Menlo and Atherton residents who took a pass on festivities so close to the jam-packed Thanksgiving holiday weekend missed an authentic Christmas treat. The temperatures were appropriately chilly for a “mini” outdoor service that included a hymn sung by the seminary’s choir, Seminarian Schola; a reading from Ezekiel; a short homily from Rector/President Fr. James L. McKearney, S.S. (pictured, left) that reflected on the “Christ tree;” blessings of both the Nativity scene and Christmas tree, and a Hispanic chorus wrapping it all up with a rousing rendition of Feliz Navidad, which the audience joined in with enthusiasm. Participants were then welcomed inside the Seminary for treats around another brilliantly lighted tree.
