Coasting, with a camera in hand

by Scott Loftesness on January 14, 2012

The weather so far in 2012 has been remarkable — sparkling days, bright sun, and — for us photographers – some gorgeous light. Yeah, I know, we really need the rain — and I hear it’s coming next week. Let’s hope we catch up quickly!

Today, I met up with a good friend of mine over on the coast — for a morning of shooting — of the photography kind. We started at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve and then headed south to Pigeon Point Lighthouse before heading to Pescadero and Duarte’s (DOO-arts they say!) for a great cracked Dungeness crab lunch.

I’ve come to appreciate these two-person photo shoots. As we explore a venue, we see through each other’s eyes — and see things we otherwise wouldn’t see. Try it sometime – it’s great fun!

This image is of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse on the San Mateo County coastline south of Pescadero. The light this morning was beautiful — and this black and white treatment features it – click here to see a larger version! One of the great joys of living in Menlo is being able to explore our beautiful surroundings on days like today.

Are you a photographer based in Menlo Park or Atherton? Let’s get connected! We can learn a lot from each other!

I can see the lens is missing!

Matthew, yes – you’re right, the lens is missing. It was recently removed in preparation for some renovation. The lens itself is sitting prominently in an adjacent building – pretty amazing to see it up close!
