First rainfall of the season brings one-half inch

by Bill Russ on October 22, 2012

The skies cleared today well before tonight’s pivotal Giants game! As of shortly before noon, my backyard gauges show .5″ for the first measureable rainfall of the year. It was enough to get San Francisquito Creek flowing under the San Mateo bike bridge. Interestingly, in 2011, rain fell on October 4th, and we had 1.4″ as of the 22nd — a good start on what would prove to be a low year of 11.95″. The bright afternoon sunshine helps show off beginning fall color on the liquid amber trees in west Menlo Park.

How about the earlier thunder storm. Was that too early to count for this year?
Thanks, Shaun
