Sunflower garden blooms in University Heights neighborhood of Menlo Park

Menlo Park resident Robin Tobias (who owns Tobias Physical Therapy on Crane St.) planted sunflowers in her University Heights garden this year — and the results are spectacular.
“This is the first year of planting a whole bed of sunflowers!” Robin explains. “I wanted to see smiles every morning in my garden.
“I started 100 of them from seed in a tray, and on my birthday [my daughter] Leah and [her friend]Juan helped me transfer them into the ground. It was great fun, and every time I looked outside I was reminded of their visit here.
“I got every kind of sunflower seed I could find at Wegman’s and planted them in height order. I loved the Honey Bears — they are the gorgeous bushy golden ones.
“Some of them have more than one blossom, so I’m guessing about 150 in all. For sure I am doing this again next year!”
