New wine from the Fogarty family tasted at winemaker dinner at LB Steak

Hard to be local and not know and appreciate the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines produced by Thomas Fogarty Winery at its location along Skyline Blvd. in Woodside. But last night at a winemaker dinner at LB Steak in Menlo Park, we were introduced to the family’s newest wine, a 2011 Lexington Cabernet Sauvignon (Gist Ranch Estate, Santa Cruz Mountains).
Tom Fogarty Jr., who is the Managing Principal of Thomas Fogarty, explained to the assembled diners and tasters that Lexington Wine Co. is a separate estate in the northeast part of Santa Cruz County and that Gist Ranch Vineyard is at an elevation of 2,400 feet.
In 2000, the Fogarty family planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon; 2011 is the inaugural release of the Cab, and the family’s entry into Bordeaux-style wines.
Side note: shout out of appreciation to LB Steak’s chef de cuisine, Eric Torio for preparing such good food to go along with the wines. Our favorite of the night: spicy halibut ceviche which was paired with a 2013 Gewürztraminer from Monterey County.

Fogarty Winery is top notch. Hopefully they will be paired with more wine dinners in Menlo Park in the not too distant future. Menlo Park is anxious to support more interesting dinner scenerios.
