Finally — a bit of rain falls on Menlo Park

by Linda Hubbard on February 22, 2022

Rain fell on Menlo Park last night and early this morning, the first since January 16. The total wasn’t much, just 0.05″, bringing the season-to-date to 13.06″.

That is much better than last year at this time when just 6.52″ had fallen (as of February 20).

Hi Linda – thanks so much for these updates. Do you know if Menlo precipitation data is regularly available somewhere (or maybe from some place close by like the Palo Alto airport)? I’ve looked in the past, but no luck.

Speaking of weather, we cover some of our plants when there might be frost, but I’m challenged by the fact that the weather sites forecasted low temps are often off (off on the high) by a full 5 degrees. For instance, I think forecast 37 or 38 last night, but when we woke up at 6:30, it was 32. I now subtract 5 degrees from forecasted low temps when I’m deciding if I should cover plants, but I thought I’d ask if you knew of more reliable forecast information. Note: I live near 101, so being nearer the bay than the center of Menlo, it seems like my temps should be warmer than the average for the whole town.
