The Snac Shak is open for business on San Mateo Drive in Menlo Park

by Contributed Content on July 2, 2024

Two brothers and their friends are selling snacks and drinks on San Mateo Drive at their Snac Shak built on wheels. The shack is stocked with snacks of all kinds and cold beverages.

The Hartwell boys (Peter (13) and Henry (11)) attend Menlo Park City Schools, and the Gross boys (Kaden (13) and Adam (11)) are at La Entrada.

The Snac Shak is complete with a plasma screen displaying a menu and forms of payment which include Apple Pay, Venmo, Visa, and American Express.

The boys built a shack on wheels and store their inventory inside. Inside the shack is a refrigerator to keep drinks and chocolate cold. Also inside is the computer running the slide show on the plasma screen displaying their menu.

Snac Shak was founded in a card board box the summer of 2021 by Peter Hartwell.

The official Snac Shak was built in 2022. It’s built on wheels. The boys have hooked it up to their go cart, selling snacks on the go!

They advertise with large signs on Valparaiso and Santa Cruz. Often times they have a blow up dinosaur alongside the shack.

San Mateo Drive is the bike route to the bridge over San Fransisquito Creek to Palo Alto affording walkers, bikers, and runners the opportunity to refuel with a cool beverage and snack while on their journeys.

Many people stop for a refreshment and are in awe of the creation by the boys. Some customers are provided service while in their car via a menu and others stop to check out the Snac Shak. Many ask to take photos. The biggest criticism to date is that their prices are too low!

Peter Hartwell, the founder of the Snac Shak says, “Tips are accepted!”

He had a few pointers and a lot of purchases from the founder of a very successful local candy store which helped get the Snac Shak up and running.

During the summer and fall you can find the Snac Shak alive and kicking at 1165 San Mateo Drive in Menlo Park.

The entrepreneurial Hartwell brothers are grandsons. We are proud of all four of them and hope they can turn a profit on their efforts.
