Tracie VanHook continues to expand Fit to the Core programs
We caught up with Tracie VanHook as her non-profit Fit to the Core is marking its fifth anniversary offering programs in Menlo Park and East Palo Alto.
“We believe that health is a collective effort,” says the Belle Haven resident. “Our programs are designed to not only strengthen bodies but also to foster a sense of belonging, connection, and empowerment.”
An example is one of the non-profits’ newest programs, “The Movement” — weekly neighborhood walking groups at Karl E. Clark Park (313 Market Place) designed to bring aging adults, their families, friends, and neighbors together to experience the many benefits of walking.
“It’s really about how health and fitness can alter your life,” says Tracie.
“That said, running a community-based nonprofit is not without challenges. Funding, securing locations, and sustaining programs all require constant effort.
“But what keeps us going is the impact — every story of transformation, every participant who finds joy in movement, and every moment when someone realizes they are stronger than they thought.”
