Margie Sarrao creates pottery that tells a story — and hopefully makes people smile
For Margie Sarrao, pottery filled her empty nest — and she’s glad it did.
“All I ever wanted to be was a mom,” she says. “But I knew I had to come up with something when they grew up.
“I always loved drawing and doodled all the time. So being an artist followed being a mom.”
She says her goal is to make people smile and make people happy.
“I do that with bright colors and whimsical imagery — imagery that you might not expect to be together.
“My items have a narrative to them that I hope people can relate to. And I hope they can be enjoyed for decades.”
One of her recent creations has been selected to be part of the Forming Function: Ceramics with a Purpose exhibit that runs from June 21 to. August 17, 2025 at the Palo Alto Art Center (250 Hamilton Avenue).
Margie is a fairly new resident of Menlo Park, moving here in 2023 when her husband John was named director of SLAC
“I am so happy to be back in California — it felt like I was coming home,” she says. “I love the plant life, the redwood trees, the oaks. Menlo Park has a a good downtown, and we have great neighbors!”
