Senator Josh Becker launches emergency food drive as SNAP benefits face disruption

Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) announced on October 28th that his district office has launched an emergency food drive in response to the federal government shutdown, which could halt SNAP benefits as soon as November 1st. The loss of SNAP (also known as CalFresh) would leave over tens of thousands of people across Senate District 13 — including women, children, and seniors — without critical support to put food on the table.
“No one in our community should be forced to suffer hunger during this uncertain time,” said Senator Becker. “That’s why we are stepping up to help and inviting our community to do everything they can to donate food for our most vulnerable neighbors.”
Beginning on Tuesday, October 28, and continuing until SNAP benefits are restored, Senator Becker’s district office will collect non-perishable food donations Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm at:
Senator Josh Becker – District Office (Rear Parking Lot Entrance), 3525 Alameda de las Pulgas, Menlo Park, (650) 233-2724.
All donations will be delivered by Becker’s staff to local food banks to directly support families in need.

I’m looking for ways to support our communities. Besides dropping food off, are there other ways to volunteer?

My name Is Sharron and Saul from Sen Becker’s office delivered a much appreciated supply of non perishable food to Catholic Worker House in Redwood City on Thursday. Today we used these to help fill grocery bags with fruits, vegetables and non perishable food to about 80 families. Every donation helps us make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in San Mateo county! Thank you for the effort!
