Music@Menlo presents Carnival of the Animals on April 25

On Saturday, April 25 at 4:00 pm,, pianist-composer Michael Stephen Brown returns to Music@Menlo with an all-star ensemble. The program opens with his new work, The Carnival of Endangered Wonders, bringing 13 rare animals to life through colorful, imaginative music.
The second half features Camille Saint-Saëns’s beloved Carnival of the Animals, where each movement playfully “paints” a different creature — perfect for young listeners and families alike.

Credit is due to the designer of the image. The watercolor-style elephant—rendered in vivid blues and oranges—features a trunk that subtly transforms into a violin’s scroll and pegbox. This integration is precise rather than decorative, aligning the animal’s form with the instrument’s structure. The effect is particularly apt given the reference to The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns, where music and animal imagery are already intertwined.
