Menlo Park pays tribute to Dolly Parton, including one from M-A alum Stevie Nicks
Tributes to Dolly Parton, who died at age 80 on Tuesday, August 26, are evident in Menlo Park today.
They were on display on the Guild Theatre marquee and also in an Instagram post by Menlo-Atherton High School alum Stevie Nicks as reported in the San Francisco Chronicle:
“I spent a week with Dolly in Nashville to record one of my songs with her for her ‘Rock Star’ album,” the former Fleetwood Mac musician posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Aug. 26, referring to their duet What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done For You on Parton’s 2023 album. “She said she could become a rock star — and I watched her do it.”
The post concluded with a poem written by Stevie:
“Dolly, Dolly, Dolly ~ Rock and Roll & Country ~ Carry all those songs with you ~ Right up to heaven. Sing your songs to all those you meet/ This will be their blessing/ Dolly, how we’ll miss you/ There’ll never be another you ~ And I will always love you.”

What is not being said here and what needs to be SHOUTED (with thanks) is that through Dolly Parton’s “Imagination Library”, more than 170,000 free books have been distributed to young children in San Mateo County.
