Baby chicks for sale – yes, right here in Menlo Park!

by Linda Hubbard on May 16, 2010

No need to head to the countryside anymore to add to – or start – your backyard chicken farm. Little Cluckers is offering chicks for sale today (Sunday, May 16) from noon to 4:00 pm. According to the eBay classified, “All hand-raised, healthy and vaccinated for Marek’s” with “breeds selected for excellent egg laying abilites, docile temperments, and suitability for raising in the backyard.” It appears that Little Cluckers, located just off the Alameda in Menlo Park, has quite an operation going, offering Black Copper Marans, White Plymouth Rock, Pearl White Leghorn, Buff Orpington, Plymouth Barred Rock, Easter Egger, Gold Star,  White Polish, Black Star, Rhode Island Red and Barnevelder at various stages of life from days to weeks old. The breeder requests “serious inquiries only.” It is after all a poultry farm, not a petting zoo!

Hi,
At home I have one Isa Brown hen. We had four, but they all died. My parents and I want to add more hens, but we are worried that my already existing hen might attack the new hens and kill them. She is a big hen and is very strong. We keep hens for their eggs and as pets, and would like to add more Isa Browns. Do you have any advice on what we should do?

Thanks,
Laura Goudie (13)
