Young people bring sounds of violins to Cafe Borrone
There are new violin sounds in town and they could be heard late yesterday afternoon at Cafe Borrone. It was the concluding event of a three-day violin workshop conducted by Sue Mann, who’s recently relocated to Menlo Park from the Chicago area. The dozen or so young performers played a diverse repertoire that spanned classical music to traditional American folk songs like Turkey in the Straw (hence the cowboy hats). According to the program, Sue Mann’s newly-opened violin school endeavors to train children in the techniques and musicianship of violin playing while also enjoying group performance opportunities. She cites famed violin teacher Betty Haag and the Magical Strings of Youth as her inspiration.
