Local Lions Club partners with Habibi’s Salon in Menlo Park to provide makeovers for female veterans
Sometimes we stumble on an activity that we believe deserves broader exposure. Such is the case with a project that the Peninsula Veterans Lions Club is partnering with Habibi’s Salon in Menlo Park. They are working together to provide female veterans with vouchers for hairdressing needs. The women are inpatients at the Veterans Hospital, and the makeovers are intended to boost their morale and self-esteem.
Emails Lions Club member Terry Catania, who is coordinating the Makeover Project (pictured with Ines Acosta, owner of Habibi’s): “It is such a blessing for the women veterans in the trauma and rehabilitation programs. Ines at Habibis is instrumental in contributing to this makeover program and the socialization with the women. They love Ines not only for her work, but for her kindness and caring. I see the women veterans daily at the VA in Menlo Park where I work as a recreation therapy assistant. They love Ines and their new look! Some of the ladies remain in contact with her after they leave their programs.”
Currently the Lions Club is staging a fundraising campaign to raise $5,000 for the project. You can find out more and contribute online.
