Bon Marché street market opens today in downtown Menlo Park

by Linda Hubbard on October 27, 2021

Beginning today from 4:00 to 8:00 pm,  a new weekly outdoor street market opens in downtown Menlo Park in the 600-700 block of Santa Cruz Avenue. Called Bon Marché, the French-inspired market is the brainchild of Bistro Vida owner Ali El Safy, who hopes it will bring more people to downtown Menlo during in the middle of the week.

In addition to Bistro Vida, vendors include Achadinha Cheese Company, Arellano Farms produce, Artisan Macaro, Buon Gusto Pasta, Castellano fruits, Fabrique Delices, Fernandez Flower Growers, GIO Gelati, Hummus Heaven, Jewelry by Geri, JuiceAlize, Lemos Farm strawberries, Little Sky Bakery, and Tu Universo Farm produce.

The new market is in partnership with the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce.

It was really great! Thanks a million for Bon Marche! Thank you very much Ali El Safy! He really feels responsible for our city and everyone can see that he loves what he is doing. Maybe it will be possible to close the other way of Santa Cruz, so that the block is closed, to have more space for stands and customers. Maybe have some tables where people can consume Bistros Vida sauerkraut or the delicious macarons there. A really nice event! Looking forward to the hot chestnuts!

Awesome job Ali putting this together despite opposition. More community events like this are outstanding and IMO everyone wins: more foot traffic in downtown area, more opportunities for artisan vendors, greater visibility to all storefronts, running into neighbors, meeting new friends, and tasting great food. MORE! BIGGER! My only complaint: it was crowded!

It is a fabulous idea. I was there and it was nice. Thank you Ali El Safy! Downtown Menlo Park definitely needs more of this kind. Otherwise, the downtown area looks dead in the evening. We also need more European style cafes with outdoor seating in Menlo Park.

I took my 5 year old and we loved it! It was a very fun way to get dinner and some fresh cheese and produce after school on a weeknight.
