Faces of Menlo: Thomas Kieninger

by Linda Hubbard on August 18, 2009

Thomas Kieninger is the second Kieninger to make and repair furniture at the Barn Wood Shop, taking over the business from his father Al. He devotes Saturdays to caning – and reports demand is steady.

The Barn Wood Shop has been in business for 80 years in its location – you guessed it! – at a barn built in 1885 that’s now part of the Allied Arts Guild. The 1885 date is a year earlier than the Russian Orthodox Church building on Crane St. So now we’re on the lookout for anything in Menlo still standing that was built before 1885.

Hi: Do you make barnwood trestle tables? I’m in the market for one that is 60″ long. If you don’t sell them, could you please tell me the name of someone who does? I live in Tacoma, Washington but will be in the Bay Area in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for your help!
Betsy
