Smart car with a snarl?

InMenlo contributor Jym Clendenin snapped this snarling Smart car yesterday in downtown Menlo. While it has a menacing look from the front, it exudes a more fanciful demeanor along its sides, almost like a colorful dancer from the Broadway musical Fela!. Anyone know its story?
