Vibe Yoga opens at Marsh Manor offering a mix of fitness and community

by Linda Hubbard on January 24, 2014

Two local women, well known among mid-Peninsula yoga followers, are combining forces at a new, spacious yoga studio – Vibe Yoga – at the Marsh Manor Shopping Center. Rebecca Barra is the owner, joined by manager Robin Soran, who InMenlo readers were first introduced to via her Yogibird classes.

“Silicon Valley is a stressful place with intense competition,” said Rebecca. “The idea behind Vibe Yoga is to create a sanctuary where people can come together in community, be it in quiet contemplation or through working out together. Mind. Body. Spirit. Community. That’s the foundation we’re building.”

Added Robin: “We’ll be offering meditation classes as well, and various workshops.”

Rebecca explained that she takes a light-hearted approach to yoga: “Life is serious. This is a place to come to unwind.”

Both admit that yoga can be intimidating to new people. To help put people at ease, they like to sit down and talk to them about what they are looking for, so they can guide people to the right class.

The studio will open its doors today (Friday, 1/24) with a party that will feature a free yoga class for all levels from 6:30 to 7:45 pm. They’ll be cupcakes baked by the studio’s Marsh Manor neighbor, Angel Heart, and a DJ on site until 10:00 pm. Free classes will continue over the weekend.

Rebecca said future plans include incorporating some Art of Yoga programs — she is on the Board of Directors — and offering donation-based classes  where a portion of the class fee will go to various local non-profits.
